Overview

Hot & Spicy Pot (一麻一辣) stands out as a vibrant hot pot destination nestled in the heart of East Tāmaki, Auckland. This spot brings authentic Chinese hot pot flavors to New Zealand, specializing in the beloved spicy dry pot, or “Xiang Guo.” The restaurant’s focus is clear: delivering bold, layered taste experiences that balance heat with deep, savory richness.

The signature spicy dry pot is a must-try and comes richly flavored with a variety of fresh ingredients, offering an intense yet harmonious heat. For those who appreciate nuanced spice profiles, the mala tang provides a perfect mix of numbing Sichuan peppercorns and fiery chili. Meanwhile, tomato soup pot offers a tangier, milder choice, catering to varying spice tolerances. Vegetables like eggplant and water spinach complement the broths, while seafood options add additional texture and freshness—ranging from clams to Argentine red prawns.

Hot & Spicy Pot’s delivery service is smooth and prompt, reinforcing their commitment to convenience without compromising quality. The restaurant is well suited to people seeking an authentic hot pot experience, whether dining in a casual, clean environment or enjoying a flavorful meal at home. Though some guests have noted the lack of heating during colder months, the warm atmosphere in the warmer seasons creates a welcoming space for friends and family to gather and share hearty, communal meals.

Customer feedback highlights the freshness and layers of flavor that make each dish memorable. The attentive service and extras—like complimentary rice or drinks with larger orders—add a personal touch that resonates deeply. While not the cheapest option in town, the balance of quality, taste, and friendly hospitality ensures Hot & Spicy Pot appeals to hot pot enthusiasts and food adventurers alike.

If you crave bold spices paired with fresh ingredients and a genuine sense of Chinese culinary culture, Hot & Spicy Pot (一麻一辣) is an ideal stop in Auckland’s vibrant dining scene.

You get a free drink over $30 I think. Not cheap but the food is pretty decent They have seafood for selection and lots of hotpot food Service is ok and they serve the food pretty quickly Taste wise I wish there could be one with numbing but not spicy. Too bad that’s not an option

Food was really delicious. Loved the freshness the coriander and celery added to the meals we ordered. Plates, cups, bowls and cutlery could use extra cleaning though.

A great selection, super delicious and friendly staff! We had dry pot which is called "Xiang Guo" with minimum spicy, the owner even gave us 2 free bowls of rice and 1 free self-select drink ! The place is nice and clean. "You don't need a silver fork to eat good food" True! the place is light and clean. I almost cry tears for every bite since we only had last dry pot meal 6 years ago.

Great variety and quality of ingredients, nice promotion as well where you get a free drink if you spend over $30 5 options available for soup/dry pot, which is a little more than other places Two bowls with decent volume cost under $45, whereas it might cost this amount for just one bowl at other malatang restaurants Plenty of seats available, doesn't get too hot inside either which is a must for hot and spicy pot!

I’ve been here several times, and the food has always been flavorful and delicious. However, this time, the rice was quite hard and felt like it might have been from the previous day. Overall, everything was still good, but I hope the owner ensures fresh rice in the future.
